A run for hypoxic brain injury in infants and children
Prevention | Therapy | Research
Samuel suffered a global brain injury at birth. There are hundreds of kids like him born every year in Canada, often with medically complex needs. Sadly, due to pervasive stigma surrounding their condition, these very hurt kids are frequently denied equitable care by our overburdened health care system. This places incredible demands on unseen caregivers, who fight to give these kids the best life possible.
Supported by his own family and friends, Samuel will be travelling by running stroller at a pace only he can determine, from Niagara to Ottawa. His goal is to raise awareness of the incredible challenges kids like him and their families face, and to promote hope for their futures. He plans to stop at every children's hospital and every secondary children's care centre along the route. He'll also stop at the Provincial Parliament in Toronto, and ultimately get to Parliament Hill.
Please follow his progress and come out to support Samuel and other hurt kids like him all along the way! Canada needs a national strategy to support this hidden but sizeable population of hurt kids.
"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
